Nairobi
Area Overview
Nairobi is the capital of Kenya and East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city, with a vibrant population of 4.5 million. Unique to the city is the proximity of Nairobi National Park, a true wilderness area juxtaposed against the larger urban metropolis. It is the only national park like it in the world and a real embodiment of the human-wildlife conflicts that challenge many African communities who must learn to cohabitate with wildlife on their doorstep.
Nairobi National Park is one of the best places in Africa to see rhino and also has a healthy population of lion, leopard, cheetah, and plains game like giraffe and antelope. Other attractions include the Karen Blixen Museum, the Giraffe Center, Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, a visit to a tea farm, and shopping for local crafts and trinkets. There are some great local and cross-cultural restaurants to explore, from roadside food stalls to local nyama choma (barbecue joints) to five-star dining establishments.

Maasai Mara Triangle
Area Overview
At over five hundred square kilometers, the Mara Triangle, as it is often referred to, is a scenically stunning 'wedge 'of mixed habitats; open savannah dotted with Balanites trees, seasonal streams, springs and marshes that are flanked to the east by the stunning riverine woodland of the Mara River, and to the west by the iconic Siria escarpment and to the south by the 'Lamai wedge' section of the Northern Serengeti.
The Mara Conservancy has been under its own jurisdiction for over 15 years and so has arguably better infrastructure, guide discipline and ethics than other parts.
&Beyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp
Property Overview
Set on a private concession, with abundant iconic wildlife and panoramic Maasai Mara views, Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp dazzles with its contemporary safari feel. With timeless interiors that are simple yet sophisticated and stylish, the camp enhances guests’ sense of privacy and enjoyment. The tents are laid out in immaculate grounds, with leisurely groups of warthog feeding right outside the tent doors. Maasai-inspired interiors firmly entrench &Beyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp as the unrivaled luxury tented camp of its size in the greater Mara.
Massive windows in the spacious guest areas invite the Mara inside and incorporate split-level spaces where guests can relax and unwind. Pick and choose delicious ingredients from the organic garden and enjoy convivial conversations in the inviting interactive kitchen. Indulge in a rejuvenating treatment inspired by holistic healing in the massage tent or browse the Safari Shop, offering the finest Kenyan handicrafts. The rim-flow swimming pool, literally on the edge of the Mara, boasts one of the world’s most extraordinary views.
Experience & Activities
The Masai Mara combines some of the richest Big Five viewing on the planet and is home to lion prides, leopard and elephant parades. In migration season, vast herds of wildebeest stretch as far as the eye can see, and with the diverse eco-systems comes a variety of bird life. Situated on the western border of the game rich Masai Mara National Reserve, the camp is set on a private concession. In addition to the excellent year-round concentration of wildlife, access to the concession allows for bush walks, night drives and bush dining under a starry sky.
This is the land of the Maasai, regal overlords and striking custodians of an ancient culture. Translated into spotted land of the Maasai, interact daily with our staff, many of whom are from local communities. Or visit a traditional village and witness the daily rituals of the Maasai.
Accommodations
Classic Tents
Classic Tents are nestled in a forest near the Saparingo River. Big comfortable beds adorn the space while wooden furniture blends seamlessly with the more classic, safari-style interiors. The Classic Tents have shared use of a two story bar and lounge area featuring expansive windows to celebrate the romance and nostalgia of the Mara.

Lamu
Area Overview
To visit the mystical island of Lamu is to take a step back in time. There is only one vehicle on the island, otherwise people walk, ride donkeys, or sail on traditional Arab sailboats called Dhows or Ngalawas. The ocean side of the island is fronted by a huge, eight mile long deserted beach, with commanding dunes that shield the coconut and mango plantations and small villages behind. At the heart of the island is the Old Town, where narrow winding paths and traditional Swahili architecture reflect the combined influences of the Omani, Indian, and Portuguese merchants and explorers over a thousand years of spirited trade.
Shela is the small beach community that has developed in walking distance from Old Town and become a favorite refuge for celebrities and European elite who don’t want to be recognised. Everyone is treated equally by locals who have welcomed visitors since the early white hunters took to visiting Lamu after their long early safaris of the 1920s and 30s. Safari-goers enjoy the laid back nature, amazing food, vibrant art scene, Swahili culture, and distinctive characters of Shela Town, said to contain some of Kenya’s most expensive real estate.
